Location: Happy Valley Nature Park

Purpose: Community Service

We spent a very warm Saturday morning volunteering with "Friends of Trees". Our mission for the day was to mulch around one thousand native plants that were planted last year. The mulching gives the plants a barrier from weeds and helps the roots retain water.

We were split into 3 different work crews. We had one group doing the mulching (making a bark dust donut ring around the little plants), one group filling up buckets, and the last group was tasked with carrying the empty buckets down the hill and the full buckets up the hill.

Our captain was repping the organization with her gold command shirt. (The rest of us didn't want to get ours dirty!) We got a lot of questions and engagement from the other participants. We definitely want to make official USS Candor gear that we can wear to our future missions.
